How To Correct A Continually Rebooting Computer

On Jumat, 09 Mei 2008 Diposting oleh Unknown Label: bios, computer, problem, reboot, system, viruses

<div style="text-align: justify;"> When you sit down at your computer desk and press the power switch on your desktop, the last thing you want to experience is a continually rebooting computer. There are a variety of causes that contribute to this problem, from something as simple as a stuck power button to a much more serious problem as your power supply slowly failing. Other causes for this problem may be overheating PC components, or viruses affecting your system. Now, if you’re like the rest of us, having a computer that reboots constantly is not our idea of a productive day. So how do you diagnose this problem and where do you start to to make corrections. Here are some common but often overlooked causes and solutions that will get your system running again. First take a look at the power button and see if its stuck in the socket. If so, you may be able to simple tap the front of the case to release the button. In some cases, you may have to remove the system unit cover to get the button to return to the out position. If you cannot stop the computer from rebooting by pressing the power button and releasing it, turn off the power switch in the back of the computer next to the power supply. If your power supply do not have a power switch, you will have to unplug the system from the wall outlet. This must be done as soon as possible so that the constant rebooting will not damage components such as the hard drive. Constant rebooting also have the danger of power surges that can further damage larger components such as the motherboard. Second you check your computer’s software by checking to be sure no virus or malware have not effected your hard drive. Virus and malware are small software that is downloaded along with other files that is designed to cause mischief. To remove any viruses and malware, use a anti-virus program that will search your hard drive and remove these file quickly. These files can cause such damage as wiping your hard drive of all data or hijacking your web browser so you have no control over your online surfing. If you find no malware on your computer, take a look at your BIOS to see if it has become unstable or has been changed. BIOS stands for Basic Input Output System and is a small program designed to check all components for proper operation when the computer is turned on. If your BIOS has been changed or if you’re not sure if its been changed, try to reset the BIOS settings to the default settings after you access the BIOS as the computer reboots.Once inside the BIOS, you should have the option to load your default settings, save the change, and reboot the computer. However, there are times when a continually rebooting computer will not allow you to access the BIOS. You can then reset the BIOS by removing the system unit cover and locating the jumper on a three pin header. You must consult your computer or motherboard manual to properly perform this procedure and it should be done as a last resort. Before making any changes to your BIOS, you should backup your BIOS if your computer reboots at long intervals. After checking your computer’s software for its rebooting problem, you must check to be sure hardware is not at fault. This problem may exist because one of your memory modules are unseated from its socket . Memory modules are long, narrow sticks that attach to the motherboard. Remove any static electricity from yourself, remove the system unit cover and check these memory modules to be sure they are secure. Check the connections to the hard drive and the connections leading from the power supply. Power supply connectors should be checked if you’ve done work inside your computer recently. Power Supplies are known to slowly fail and lead to rebooting problems. There is no way to check an ailing power supply and this should be considered the problem as a last resort. Following these steps will help you correct any computer that continually reboots itself. If no virus or malware is found, carefully and thoroughly check all connections. And if the problem still exist, the most likely cause would be the Power Supply. </div>About The Author <div style="text-align: left;">Otis F. by : Infusionx <div style="text-align: justify;">Looking to buy a new desktop personal computer system? Owing to the changing nature of the PC Hardware industry and declining prices, it makes it all that much more difficult. Here come many of the basic items to examine when comparing desktop computer systems so that you can make an informed purchasing decision. Most PC Dealer bundle the configuration you require. A PC is made up of the CPU (Central Processing Unit or Processor, as we know) and the Mother Board (MB) on which it fits into. MB supports many other hardware, either inbuilt or add-ons. It has slots for RAM (usually called Memory) and for other cards such as Modem, Video-graphics card, Sound Card etc. It also has lots of ports to support input, output and storage devices, peripherals and what not. For Processors there are two basic choices, brand and speed. A lot of change is happening in the market. Both Intel and AMD are starting to produce dual core processors, but they aren't required for most people. Budget CPUs can be found around the 2.4 to 3.0 GHz (PR of 3000+ and below) range, mid-range at 2.8 to 3.2 GHz (PR of 3200+ to 3800+) and high-end processors at or above 3.4 GHz(PR above 4000+). Budget Processors: these are on the verge of phasing out but are good for low end purposes such as word-processing etc. They are AMD Athlon 64, AMD Sempron 64, Intel Celeron D 300 Series, Intel Pentium 4 (Socket T), Intel Pentium D 805 Through 820. Middle Processors: This is the segment of the market that is probably the best overall value for your computing dollar. The range is AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ to 4600+ (Socket AM2), Intel Pentium D 900 Series, Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 to E6700. Top of the Line Processors: This is the cream of the crop when it comes to processing power. If you absolutely must have the best thing out there for your new computer than this is what you want to look at. AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 and higher, AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ and higher, Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800, QX6700 and higher. RAM is important because to run your system optimally. The minimum of 512MB PC2100 DDR or PC2700 DDR RAM should be there even for budget systems. Though1GB of RAM provides much better performance. DDR2 PC3200 can be found on newer Intel systems. When buying memory, try to buy as few DIMMs as possible to allow for future memory upgrades if needed. Hard drives is for storage. Most hard drives available now will provide you with more than enough storage. Look for atleast 80 GB 7200 rpm drive as the minimum. If you really want performance, look for drives with 8MB or 16MB of cache. Drives will either be Serial ATA or IDE but performance levels are roughly the same. Optical Drives. Most systems, including budget systems, sold now feature multiformat DVD burners that can support both the +R/RW and -R/RW formats and 16x for the recordable speed as well as Dual or Double Layer media support. If you don't need a DVD burner, try to at least get a CD-RW/ DVD combo drive of 24x recording speed to allow for CD media storage and DVD playback. Video Card Owing to rapid change in technology it is difficult to choose the right one. Card that supports DirectX 9 future capability, with 128MB of memory is the best. DVI connectors for digital LCD panels and multi-monitor support are the need of future. Otherwise there is wide range to fit your requirement. New systems should use PCI Express graphics cards over the previous AGP interface. External Connectors Many I/O devices, upgrades and peripherals to computers now connect through external interfaces instead of internal cards. Look for systems that have at least six USB 2.0 and one IEEE 1394 or FireWire ports. Monitors Choose least a 17 inch i.e 1280 by 1024 pixels resolution monitor. Choice is between bulky CRT or Sleek LCD monitors. CRTs provide a wide range of capabilities at a good price. LCDs take up less desk space but cost more and have limited capabilities. Software Goes with the PC are the set of software you require to work on it. Try only the reliable and widely used operating systems and software, anti virus solutions and firewalls. Not only the support is readily available, the Help (F1) is also handy. Microsoft offers most value-for-the-money readymade yet customizable solution. But assess your requirement first. Do not overload your system with unnecessary stuff. I t will be pain-in-the-ass every now and then. Oracle, Adobe, Sun Micro, Symantec, IBM etc. are also proving reliable solutions. You can go in for the custom made software, if security and confidentiality is your prime need. </div> <h4 style="font-style: italic;font-family:arial;">About the Author</h4>JBO Solutions provides computer hardware, software and services to all types of customers. Submitted By: <a class="biggerlink" href="http://www.isnare.com/?s=author&a=Gabriel+Adams" style="font-family: arial;">Gabriel Adams</a> <img alt="iSnare Expert Author" src="http://www.isnare.com/images/bulb.gif" style="font-family: arial;" /> Most of us rely on our personal computers and those in our office to complete multiple tasks each day. If that data is lost or compromised it can create numerous problems for us. Protecting computers against viruses and spyware is something you should do before you start using any program on it. The information you prevent from being accessed could be your credit card accounts and bank accounts. If they are compromised you can end up becoming a victim of identity theft.<div style="text-align: justify;"> </div>One way that people accidentally end up with viruses or spyware on their computer is by not paying attention to the sites they use. Don’t get into the habit of giving out your personal information online just because a site asks for it. To opt in, you should only have to give them a first name and an email address.<div style="text-align: justify;"> </div>Always check the address in the URL to make sure you are accessing a secure site. It should start with “https” as this will let you know it is very secure. If it only starts with “http” then the site is not secure and you can end up compromising the security of your computer if you continue entering information on the site.<div style="text-align: justify;"> </div>Viruses can spread very rapidly so if you think your computer may be infected, you should take care not to pass it to any other area of your computer or to others via email. By disconnecting your computer from the network you have a good chance of isolating the damages.<div style="text-align: justify;"> </div>Always be on the alert for various types of emails known as phishing. This is a scam to get you to provide personal information. Once you do, spyware can be attached to your computer. Never respond to emails asking you for personal information as most credible companies won’t contact you for such information.<div style="text-align: justify;"> </div>Make sure you purchase a virus and spyware protection program that is very easy to install. Most of them offer step by step instructions for you to follow. You can find out how easy such software programs are to install before you buy them just by reading some independent reviews online.<div style="text-align: justify;"> </div>You need to choose the program for your computer protection very carefully. While they are designed to give you the very best security, you can be sure those trying to pass viruses or get spyware into your system are very smart. They have learned elaborate tricks to be able to gain access to your information.<div style="text-align: justify;"> </div>One of the latest tactics that these criminals have been using is to sell software that is supposed to protect your computer from viruses and spyware. Unfortunately, what they are selling you is actually the very thing you are trying to protect yourself against. Always get such software from a company that has an excellent reputation, not just any one that you come across online for a good price.<div style="text-align: justify;"> </div>In order to ensure your computer is well protected against viruses and spyware, you want a program that offers you instant updates. These will usually happen for one full year after you install the program. This ensures that your protective software is always the most current available and criminals will have a hard time infecting your computer system with viruses or spyware. <div style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial; font-style: italic;font-family:arial;" id="authorbio">About the Author: Protect your PC with <a href="http://www.trend-micro-zone.com/">Trend Micro's Security product</a>: <a href="http://www.trend-micro-zone.com/trend-micro-internet-security-us.html">Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 - PC-cillin</a>.</div>
